Position Description 

As a Health Scholars Mentor, you will assume a central role in advancing our esteemed pathway program, UH Health Scholars. Your primary responsibility will involve the engagement of educational institutions, educators, families, and community resources to provide unwavering support to students ranging from the 8th to the 12th grade as they embark on their journeys toward rewarding careers in healthcare.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate seamlessly to ensure the holistic development of scholars in areas encompassing social/emotional growth, executive functioning skills, and exposure to academic excellence.

  • Efficiently oversee scholars' participation in an array of activities, encompassing clinical shadowing, lectures, yoga, artistic expression, group work, and community service.

  • Contribute to the design, coordination, and execution of a meticulously crafted curriculum and enriching extracurricular initiatives.

  • Foster leadership opportunities that empower scholars to acquire indispensable life and career competencies.

  • Exhibit unwavering commitment by attending all mandated training sessions and program-related events.

  • Serve as a beacon of inspiration for scholars and advocate tirelessly on behalf of the youth demographic.

Required
Qualifications

  • Attain a minimum age of 18 years, accompanied by a high school diploma or G.E.D.

  • Possess U.S. citizenship or hold lawful permanent resident status.

  • Display willingness to undergo a comprehensive background check.

  • Provide verifiable documentation of COVID-19 vaccinations.

  • Be capable of providing professional/academic references upon request.

Preferred Attributes

  • Pursuing a science or health-related bachelor's degree with a strong interest in healthcare.

  • Proficient in effective communication and independent work.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with empathy, creativity, and organization.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Prior mentoring experience, especially with marginalized youth, driven by a commitment to their success.

  • A history of volunteerism.
